As is the case around the country, North Carolina’s franchised auto and truck dealers consider recruiting and retaining well-trained automotive technicians as a top priority. Over the past several years, NCADA has developed a strong partnership with the NC Department of Public Instruction and with the NC Community College System in an effort to elevate the automotive education programs across the state to national standards and to promote careers in the automobile industry.
As of July 2008, all high school automotive programs in North Carolina and 22 of the community college programs are NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation). In addition, six of these NC high school programs have gone on to achieve AYES (Automotive Youth Educational Systems) certification. NCADA and its dealer members have been involved with the auto programs across the state, assisting with program certifications, hiring interns and employees, and recognizing outstanding students and instructors.
