Electronic Inspections Implementation Date Changed to November 1, 2008
DMV has announced an extension of the implementation date of the new electronic inspections process from October 1, 2008, to November 1, 2008. Throughout the month of October, inspections stickers will continue to be used in order to allow DMV additional time to complete the rollout of the necessary software and equipment to inspections stations.
However, the safety-only vehicle inspection fee increase that was included in the 2007 legislation establishing the electronic inspections process will remain on schedule. Effective October 1, 2008, the cost of a safety-only vehicle inspection will increase from $9.10 to $13.60 (Inspection fee increasing from $8.25 to $12.75 plus $.85 sticker/authorization fee).
DMV recently sent notice of the implementation date extension to all licensed inspections stations. Inspections stations in safety-only counties were also sent a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) addressing the use of the electronic inspection equipment being deployed to these stations. The MOU must be reviewed and signed by the inspections station owner/operator with an original copy presented to the DMV representative that comes to your dealership/inspection station to activate the new inspection equipment. A copy of the DMV notices sent to safety-only and emissions inspections stations is available for download below. Also, a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding sent to safety-only inspections stations is available for download below.
